My printer is on a network.  My wife can print in color from her computer but I can't from mine.  What can I do to print in color?

@Jay4066, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It appears that your printer is capable of printing in color, but your computer is not currently set up to do so. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check Printer Settings

  1. Open the Start menu and search for "Control Panel."
  2. Click on "Devices and Printers."
  3. Locate your printer in the list.
  4. Right-click on the printer icon and select "Printing Preferences."

Ensure Color Printing Is Enabled

  • Within the Printing Preferences window, ensure there is an option to print in color. Sometimes, there's a checkbox or dropdown to select color printing.

Step 2: Update Printer Driver

  1. Open the Start menu and search for "Device Manager."
  2. In Device Manager, expand the "Print Queues" section.
  3. Right-click on your printer and select "Update driver."
  4. Follow the prompts to search for and update the printer driver.

Step 3: Check Application Print Settings

Sometimes individual programs, such as Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat, can have their own print settings.

  1. Open the document/picture you want to print.
  2. Access the print settings through "File" > "Print."
  3. Ensure the printer is set to print in color in the program's print dialog box.

Step 4: Verify Printer Port Configuration

  1. Open the Start menu and search for "Control Panel."
  2. Click on "Devices and Printers."
  3. Right-click on the printer icon and select "Printer Properties."
  4. Verify your port settings. Ensure your printer is correctly configured using the appropriate network port.

Step 5: Reinstall Printer Software

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider reinstalling the printer software.

  1. Open the Control Panel and select "Devices and Printers."
  2. Right-click and select "Remove device."
  3. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest printer drivers:

I hope this helps.
