HP Officejet Pro 8028e, I am getting an error message saying the magenta cartridge is not communicating with my printer. I replaced the cartridge but am still getting the same message.

Hi @Grace7310,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
- Make sure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-HP cartridges can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove the magenta ink cartridge.
- Inspect the cartridge for any packaging materials, protective tape, or debris on the electrical contacts. Remove any found.
- Reinsert the cartridge securely into its slot.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove the magenta ink cartridge.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.
Check for Firmware Updates:
Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
.
Reset the Printer:
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
- Turn the printer on and check if the issue is resolved.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the back of the printer.
- Turn the printer on and check if the issue is resolved.
Check for Debris or Obstructions:
- Inspect the ink cartridge slot for any debris or obstructions. Clear any foreign materials that may impede communication between the cartridge and printer.
Test with Another Cartridge:
- If possible, try using another magenta cartridge to determine if the issue is with the cartridge itself or the printer.
I hope this helps.

I tried all the info suggested and it still has the same message. New cartridges were delivered March 31 or April 1 and I immediately installed them. The magenta is the only 1 not working. Not sure what to do.

Hi @Grace7310,
Thank you for the response.
Try a Different Genuine HP Magenta Cartridge
Even though it's new and genuine, sometimes a cartridge can be defective right out of the box. If you have another magenta cartridge (from a different pack or order), try inserting that one.
Clean the Printer’s Contact Pins Again, But Gently
Since the issue is persistent, try:
Using a soft pencil eraser (instead of just distilled water) to gently rub the printer's contact pins where the magenta cartridge connects.
Then clean with a dry lint-free cloth.
This trick sometimes works better for stubborn contact issues than just wiping with water.
Printer’s Cartridge Reader May Be Faulty
If only the magenta slot keeps giving this issue and every other color works fine, the printer's internal contact for magenta might be damaged or misaligned.
I hope this helps.
