@Thompro, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Cartridge Compatibility with HP OfficeJet Pro 8710!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It is possible that the cartridges sent to you are incompatible due to the model revisions introduced by HP. Beginning in early 2019, HP started shipping updated versions of several ink cartridges, including HP 902, 903, 904, 905, 906XL, 907XL, 908XL, 909XL, 952, 953, 954, 955, 956XL, 957XL, 958XL, and 959XL. These updated cartridges are meant to be compatible with both current and future printers using these numbers.
Steps to Ensure Cartridge Compatibility
Check the Warranty End Date on Cartridges
- HP 902, 903, 904, 905, 906XL, 907XL, 908XL, and 909XL: Must have a Warranty Ends date of May 2021 or later.
- HP 952, 953, 954, 955, 956XL, 957XL, 958XL, and 959XL: Must have a Warranty Ends date of February 2021 or later.
Verify the Cartridge Packaging
- On the package: Look for the Warranty Ends date on the back of the package.
- On the cartridge:
- HP 902-909: Warranty Ends date is located on the top of the cartridge.
- HP 952-959: Warranty Ends date is located on the side of the cartridge.
Update Printer Firmware
- If you notice errors with an Original HP cartridge, ensure your printer’s firmware is updated to the latest version. Firmware updates often resolve compatibility issues.
- For firmware updates, refer to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
