Can someone please help with my printer? It won’t recognise the cartridges or I’m having trouble connecting it to my Wi-Fi.

Hi @Stevenmb,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Certainly! Let's troubleshoot both issues step by step.

Printer Not Recognizing Cartridges

Check Compatibility:

  • Ensure the cartridges are compatible with the HP DeskJet 2820e. The correct cartridges for this model are typically the HP 67 or 67XL.

Proper Installation:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove any protective tape on the cartridges.
  • Insert the cartridges into the correct slots (black in the right slot, color in the left slot).
  • Push the cartridges firmly until they click into place.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
  • Let the contacts dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi Network Compatibility:

  • Ensure your printer is within the range of your Wi-Fi network.
  • Make sure your Wi-Fi network is operating on the 2.4 GHz band, as many HP printers do not support the 5 GHz band.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Download the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer.
  • Open the app and select “Set Up a New Printer”.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to the Wi-Fi network.

Manual Wi-Fi Setup:

  • On the printer control panel, go to the wireless settings.
  • Select "Wireless Setup Wizard" and follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your network.

Check Router Settings:

  • Ensure your router’s settings allow new devices to connect. Disable MAC address filtering temporarily if it’s enabled.
  • Make sure your network is not hidden.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your printer, computer, and router.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
