Hi @ppowell53,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus is consistently showing a "cartridge damaged" error message after replacing the yellow ink cartridge with new ones, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Restart Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a couple of minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Clean Contacts: Ensure that the contacts on both the ink cartridge and the printer are clean and free from any dust or debris. Use a clean, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts.
  • Reinstall Cartridge: Remove the yellow ink cartridge and reinstall it properly, ensuring that it clicks securely into place. Make sure you remove any protective tape or seals from the cartridge before installing it.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges. Also, ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Try Different Cartridges: If you have access to multiple new yellow ink cartridges, try installing a different one to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem lies with the specific cartridge or with the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
