Please help me solve a cartridge error issue. no matter how many new cartridges I put into the XL black ink holder, properly inserted and already cleaned, I keep getting reading that: one or more cartridges appear to be damaged remove or replace.

Hi @VCondron,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're encountering a "cartridge error" message on your HP printer despite replacing the cartridges, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your printer model. Using non-genuine or incorrect cartridges can cause errors.
Inspect the Cartridges
- Remove the cartridges and check for any physical damage. Look for cracks or missing parts.
- Check the ink nozzle and electrical contacts on the cartridges for any debris or damage.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Clean the metal contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab slightly dampened with distilled water. Make sure they are completely dry before reinserting.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can help reset any temporary errors.
Reinstall Cartridges
- Reinsert the cartridges one by one, ensuring they click securely into place. Make sure you're using the correct slots (e.g., color and black).
Check for Firmware Updates
- Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website.
Run the Printer Troubleshooter
- If you have access to a computer, run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool can help diagnose and fix many common issues.
Perform a Power Reset
- For some printers, you can perform a power reset by turning off the printer, disconnecting the power cord, and then holding down the power button for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
Try a Different Cartridge
- If possible, try using a different set of cartridges (preferably genuine HP ones) to see if the issue persists. It could be that the new cartridges are defective.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
