I installed a new cartridge last night and it printed about 40 pages then it said it was out. I installed a brand new ink cartridge this morning, it printed about 30 pages and now says the ink is all gone. It will not print anything. Is there a way to check the sensors?

Hi @tallwoman
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is incorrectly indicating that the ink cartridges are empty after only printing a few pages, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check Cartridge Installation
- Ensure the cartridges are installed correctly. Remove them and reseat them, making sure they click into place securely.
2. Inspect for Protective Tape
- Double-check that any protective tape or plastic covers on the new cartridges were removed before installation.
3. Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts
- Gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth. This can help improve the connection.
4. Run the Printer Maintenance
- Many printers have a maintenance option in the settings. Look for options like "Clean Printheads" or "Align Printheads," which can help with ink detection issues.
5. Check for Firmware Updates
- Visit the HP Support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve issues.
6. Print a Test Page
- Try printing a test page to see if the printer functions correctly, even with the ink warning.
7. Reset Printer Settings
- Resetting your printer to its factory settings can sometimes resolve persistent issues. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions.
8. Check for Errors
- Look for any error messages on the printer display that could indicate a specific issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
