I have an HP Officejet Pro 9020.  When I installed a new ink cartridge, the error message said "Replace the ink cartridge"  I removed it and installed again.  Same message.  I put the old cartridge back in .  Same message.  Turned off printer and unplugged it and then restarted.  Same message.  Replaced a different color with new cartridge.  Same message.  And it still won't print.  Help! Hi @Chavatoll,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Make sure you are using the correct cartridge model for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020.
  • HP cartridges have region codes—if you purchased the cartridge from a different country, it might not work.
  • If you're using refilled or third-party cartridges, they may not be recognized by the printer.

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 5-10 minutes to clear any stored error messages.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Try inserting the new cartridge again.

Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
  3. Take a lint-free cloth and lightly wipe the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  4. Let them dry and reinsert the cartridges.
