I have a HP Office Pro 8610 that I inherited from my mother. I just want to use it about 1-2 times per month. My mom had a subscription that expired several years ago. When I put in new ink cartridges, I still get a message saying it can't print without being enrolled. I don't want to subscribe!

Hi @mkb1858,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Instant ink!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Cancel Instant Ink Program:

  • Visit the HP Instant Ink website and log into your account to ensure that the subscription associated with your printer is cancelled completely.

Replace Instant Ink Cartridges:

  • Replace the Instant Ink cartridges with standard HP ink cartridges. Instant Ink cartridges often have embedded technology that links them to the subscription service.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • Perform a hard reset to clear any remnants of the Instant Ink settings:
    • Unplug the printer from the wall outlet.
    • Unplug the power cord from the printer.
    • Wait for 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the printer.
    • Plug the printer back into the wall outlet.
    • Turn on the printer.

Update Printer Firmware:

Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

Disable Web Services:

  • Sometimes enabling or disabling web services can reset the subscription requirement.
  • On your printer control panel, go to "Setup" -> "Web Services Setup" and disable Web Services.

Factory Reset:

Refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.

By following these steps, you should be able to bypass the HP Instant Ink subscription requirement and continue using your printer with regular cartridges.

I hope this helps.
