Hi @StanTorren ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you have HP Instant Ink cartridges installed in your HP ENVY 5020 printer, you should be able to print even if you're not enrolled in HP Instant Ink. The cartridges that come with the printer or the ones you purchase separately should work without requiring an Instant Ink subscription.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and ensure your printer is ready to print:

Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the Instant Ink cartridges are correctly installed in your printer. Open the printer cover and make sure each cartridge is securely in place.

Printer Status: On your computer, check the printer status. Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners" and select your HP ENVY 5020. Make sure it's set as the default printer and that it shows as "Ready."

Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve communication issues between the printer and computer.

Check Print Queue: Open the print queue on your computer. Sometimes, print jobs get stuck in the queue and can cause issues. Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners," select your printer, and click on "Open queue." Cancel any pending print jobs.

Check for Updates: Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install them on your computer.

Paper and Connection: Ensure that there is paper in the printer tray, and the printer is properly connected to your computer. Also, check for any error messages on the printer display.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
