@Chuckbro, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP LaserJet MFP M234dwe printer is not printing after replacing the toner cartridge, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure the replacement cartridge is genuine HP and compatible with the M234dwe model. Non-HP or refilled cartridges may not be recognized.

Reinstall the Cartridge

  • Power off the printer.
  • Remove the toner cartridge.
  • Gently shake it side to side to distribute the toner evenly.
  • Reinsert it firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Power the printer back on.

Check for Error Messages

Look at the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app for any error messages like:

  • “Install Black Cartridge”
  • “Cartridge Error”
  • “Door Open”

These can indicate improper installation or a faulty cartridge.

Reset the Printer

Sometimes a factory reset can help:

  • On the printer control panel, press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons for 5 seconds.
  • This will restore default settings and may clear any cartridge recognition issues.

Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues. Use the HP Smart app or visit the HP support site to check for updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your advice.  I tried all of the recommendations on two different vendors cartridges without success.  I will go to a..HP cartridge.
