Randomly, when I go to print something, it'll print a few lines of symbols on each piece of paper and it typically goes through half a ream each time.  I keep hitting cancel and it will stop for a few seconds, then start right back up, printing a jumbled mess.  This is so frustrating!  I am wasting a lot of paper and ink!  Please help...  🙂

Hi @KWilliams75,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers compatible with Windows 11.

Clear Print Queue:

  • If there are jammed print jobs, clear the print queue to prevent them from causing further issues:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Find your printer, select it, then click Open queue.
    • Right-click each job in the list and choose Cancel.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or the network. Sometimes, a loose connection can lead to data miscommunication.

Use a Different Connection Method:

  • If you are connected through USB, try using a different USB port or a different cable.
  • If you are using a wireless connection, consider switching to a wired connection (or vice versa) to see if that resolves the issue.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the current printer software from your computer, and then reinstall it using the latest version downloaded from the HP website.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Updating the printer firmware can sometimes resolve issues. You can check for any firmware updates on the HP website or through the printer's on-screen display.

Test with a Different Document:

  • Try printing a different document or format to see if the issue persists. Sometimes specific documents or file formats can cause printing errors.

Anti-Virus/Firewall Settings:

  • Check that your antivirus or firewall settings are not interfering with print jobs.

I hope this helps.
