I am getting an incompatible cartridge message. I have purchased a new HP cartridge 952 and am still getting the same message. I have unplugged the power source and cleaned the cartridge per the instructions. I cannot get rid of the message or the problem. These cartridges are expensive and I have purchased two new ones (it is the black cartridge).
Anyone have any suggestions.

Hi @Wiggles911
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're encountering an "incompatible cartridge" message even after installing a new HP 952 black cartridge, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:
1. Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure that the cartridge is indeed an HP 952 and that it is compatible with your specific printer model.
2. Inspect the Cartridge
- Protective Tape: Double-check that any protective tape or seals have been removed from the cartridge.
- Damage: Inspect the cartridge for any physical damage.
3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts in the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Let them dry before reinserting.
4. Reseat the Cartridge
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the printer and carefully remove the cartridge.
- Reinsert the cartridge firmly, ensuring it clicks into place.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
5. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
6. Update Firmware
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or on the HP website.
7. Check for Error Messages
- Look for any additional error messages on the printer’s display that could provide more information about the problem.
8. Try Another Cartridge
- If possible, try using another new HP 952 cartridge to rule out the possibility of a defective cartridge.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
