I am getting two messages  at different times, one says the black cartridge is incompatible with my printer, then I replace it with another one and get a message that the cartridge is for an older generation printer. One cartridge is the same one I have been using right along. I have done everything suggested to resolve the issue but NOTHING works!! I even bought another new cartridge but still get the same result. I took it out and just ran with the colored on and it worked fine, so it is just the black one. I have cleaned the head, the cartridges, unplugged cord and printer multiple times, restarted the computer, downloaded a new driver! I’m at a loss!

Hi @Bucky41

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your printer is rejecting the black cartridge due to compatibility issues, even though you've tried multiple replacements. Here are some possible causes and solutions:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure the black cartridge is exactly the model recommended for your printer.
  • Some HP printers have regional cartridge restrictions, meaning cartridges purchased in a different country may not work.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
  • Wait 5 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.

3. Try a Different Black Cartridge

  • If possible, test with a new HP black cartridge from a different batch.

Let me know how it goes!
