I received a message stating I have installed an incompatible ink cartridge. I have never done this as I only use the cartridges mailed to me by the instant ink program. What would cause this and how do i solve this problem?

Hi @Pep49,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're receiving a message about an incompatible ink cartridge despite only using cartridges provided by the HP Instant Ink program, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Troubleshooting Steps:
Check Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure the cartridges you received are indeed compatible with your printer model. Double-check the cartridge number and compare it with the recommended cartridges for your printer model.
Reinstall the Cartridges:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the printer cover and remove the ink cartridges.
- Carefully reinstall the cartridges, making sure they click into place securely.
- Close the cover, plug the printer back in, and turn it on.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges are installed.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Check for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP website.
- Firmware updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with cartridges.
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and resolve the error.
Verify Instant Ink Account:
- Log in to your HP Instant Ink account and check your subscription details to ensure your account is active and there are no issues.
- Verify that the cartridges you received are linked to your account and your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
