Hi @oldmen2025,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

  • Ensure that you are using genuine HP cartridges that are compatible with the HP OfficeJet 6958. The compatible cartridges are:
    • HP 902 Black
    • HP 902 Cyan
    • HP 902 Magenta
    • HP 902 Yellow
    • HP 902XL (high yield) versions are also compatible.
    • Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
    • Look for the HP logo and the part number to confirm they are genuine HP cartridges.

Clean the Contacts

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer.
    • Open the ink cartridge access door and gently remove all the ink cartridges.
    • Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the carriage.
    • Allow them to dry for a few minutes before reinstalling.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to the HP Software and Drivers page and enter your printer model (HP OfficeJet 6958).
  • Download the latest firmware update available for your printer.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to install the firmware update.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Disable Cartridge Protection Settings

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Select your printer and go to the Settings or Advanced Settings.
  • Look for Cartridge Protection settings and disable it.
  • Save the settings and restart the printer.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges

  1. Purchase Genuine Cartridges

I hope this helps.
