HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a

I have an error message on my OfficeJet Pro 8600 that there are damaged ink cartridges.  The warranty on the ink cartridges ends February 2026.  I want to request replacement cartridges and am getting a dead end with the virtual assistant as the printer is out of warranty.  I have followed the steps to reset the printer and it is clearly coming up with "damaged ink cartridge" report now.  I cannot connect to a live person to get the warranty process started.

Hi @SJohnson5

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The "damaged ink cartridge" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 can be caused by a few different factors.

Here are some steps you can take to address the issue:

Inspect and Clean the Ink Cartridges:

  • Turn off your printer.
  • Remove all the ink cartridges and carefully inspect them for damage or leaks.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Allow everything to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

Verify Cartridge Authenticity:

  • Ensure that all your cartridges are genuine HP cartridges. Non-genuine or counterfeit cartridges can sometimes cause this error.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This can sometimes clear internal errors.

Inspect the Printhead:

  • If cleaning the cartridges doesn’t resolve the issue, carefully remove the printhead (if removable on your model) and clean it with distilled water to clear any blockages. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling it.

Firmware Updates:

  • Check for the latest firmware updates on the HP Support website. Updating your printer’s firmware may resolve compatibility or system issues.

Printer Reset to Factory Defaults:

  • Access the printer’s settings menu, locate the reset options, and perform a factory reset. Be mindful that this will erase any custom settings.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
