Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

I own an OfficeJet Pro 8710. I only print an average of  5-8 single pages per month. Yet I keep getting messages  that my ink cartridges (various/randomly selected) are depleted and must be replaced to resume printing!! So I replace the one it states is depleted, only to get the same error with another cartridge a short while later!! If I was doing a lot of printing I might understand, but this is costing me a fortune to print so few pages!! I have tried unplugging the cartridge and putting it back in, unplugging it from my computer, unplugging it at the power source, starting and restarting everything, and have run the cleaning/printing alignment/quality function, all to no avail.I used to use non HP, less expensive, cartridges, Thinking that might be the problem I switched exclusively to HP cartridges. That didn't help. I really appreciate any solutions you can help me with. I can't afford to keep replacing cartridges at the rate I have been doing!! Thanks in advance for your time and your help!!

Hi @PhreddPhlintrok,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are facing issues with Ink Depletion Errors.

If you're experiencing ink depletion errors on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer even with new ink cartridges, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes reset the printer and resolve the error.

Update Printer Firmware: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually check for updates through the printer's menu or the HP website. Click here

Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and securely. Sometimes, a loose cartridge can cause detection issues.

Clean Cartridge Contacts: Remove the ink cartridges and clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.

If the above steps do not work, Perform a semi-full reset on the printer. This will reset the printer to its factory settings but retain some settings like the wireless credentials.

The reset instructions are specific to your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instructions to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
