Ink cartridge error

I have a HP 3831 which has an error 

ink cartridge problem

i have removed and reinstalled the Cartridge 


then followed the instructions to clean and then replaced the cartridge after 10 minutes and I still have the error message.

I understand the ink cartridge is not working. 

Insert the old/alternate ink cartridge to check for the error. By this, we can conclude if the new ink cartridge is defective.

Check for the plastic tape if any, is removed from the new ink cartridge before placing it in the printer.


Make sure the ink cartridges are properly inserted in the printer, you may refer to - Replace HP inkjet printer cartridges

Note: Use HP ink cartridges.


Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Ink cartridge error


If the error persists even after using multiple ink cartridges, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the replacement options for the printer. If it's only 1 ink cartridge, get a replacement for the defective one.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.
