Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy 4512 printer is still showing an ink cartridge error even after installing new cartridges, try these steps.
Check Cartridge Compatibility
Ensure you're using the correct ink cartridges:
- HP 63 (Standard or XL) for North America
- HP 302 (Standard or XL) for Europe, Middle East, and Africa
- HP 123 (Standard or XL) for Asia-Pacific
- HP 803 (Standard or XL) for China and India
If the cartridges are correct, proceed with the next steps.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait 2-3 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the cartridge access door and remove both ink cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Let them dry for 5 minutes before reinserting.
Hard Reset
- With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait 10-15 minutes.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Try One Cartridge at a Time
- Remove both cartridges.
- Insert only the black cartridge and check for errors.
- Then insert only the color cartridge and check for errors.
- If one cartridge causes the error, that cartridge may be faulty.
Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause cartridge errors.
- Go to HP Support.
- Enter your printer model (HP Envy 4512).
- Download and install any firmware updates.
Use HP Genuine Cartridges
If you're using refilled or third-party cartridges, they may not work properly due to HP's cartridge authentication system. Try genuine HP cartridges.
Factory Reset
If none of the above works, try a factory reset:
- On the printer control panel, go to Setup.
- Select Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Confirm and restart the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
