Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Envy Photo 7100.  Installed brand new tricolor cartridge, did alignment, then got message that cartridge not installed correctly.  Reinstalled 3 times.  Found post about cleaning contacts on both printer and cartridge and printer reset.  Did that twice.  Plugged in old cartridge and no issue.  I then noticed that the difference between old and new was that the upper left and right corners of new had hole with a copper(?) inside while new one did not.

@rnugeman Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are facing issues with ink cartridges.

Please let us know if you are using HP genuine ink cartridges.

Please perform the hard reset and check.

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Please clean the electrical contacts of the ink cartridge and check.

If the issue still persists, please replace the ink cartridges.
