Hi @Scooter1945,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 might have a mechanical issue with the printhead. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem.
- Turn Off and Unplug: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Leave it unplugged for a few minutes to allow any residual power to drain.
- Open the Printer: Open the printer’s access door to the ink cartridges. Wait for the carriage to move to the center if it does.
- Check for Obstructions: Look for any visible obstructions or foreign objects in the path of the carriage. Carefully remove any debris or paper that might be blocking it.
- Manually Move the Carriage: Gently try to move the carriage by hand. It should move smoothly from left to right. Be careful not to force it.
- Check Ink Cartridges: Make sure the ink cartridges are properly seated. Sometimes, a misaligned cartridge can cause the carriage to jam.
- Inspect the Belt: Look at the belt that moves the carriage. If it appears to be off track or damaged.
- Perform a Reset: Reconnect the power and turn the printer back on. This might reset the carriage position and resolve the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
