Hi @Battman62,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are the "Ink System Problem" message on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer typically indicates an issue with the ink delivery system. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord and wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
- Check if the error persists.
2. Check and Reseat Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove all cartridges and inspect them for damage or leaks.
- Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and in the carriage with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly and ensure they click into place.
- Close the cartridge access door and check for the error.
3. Inspect the Printhead
The printhead might need attention if reseating the cartridges doesn't help:
- Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
- Lift the latch securing the printhead and remove the printhead carefully.
- Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and in the printer with a lint-free cloth moistened with distilled water.
- Reinsert the printhead and secure the latch.
- Reinstall the cartridges, close the access door, and check the printer.
4. Perform a Printer Reset
If the error persists, perform a semi-full reset:
- Unplug the printer's power cord.
- Press and hold the # and 6 buttons on the printer.
- While holding the buttons, reconnect the power cord.
- Release the buttons when the printer turns on.
5. Update or Reinstall Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check if the printer firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause errors.
- Download the latest firmware from the HP Support website and install it.
6. Check for Hardware Failures
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, the printhead might need replacement.
7. Perform a System Diagnostic
Run the printer’s built-in diagnostics:
- From the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
- Test if the cleaning resolves the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
