Just purchased new black ink for the printer. However screen keeps popping up saying ‘depleted cartridges must be replaced to resume printing’. I just want the printer to print off black and white. 

Does the printer only work if I have colour ink in it?

To be able to assist you better, I'd like to know the following-

  • What happens when you install the old black ink cartridge if you still have it?
  • Have you tried removing and reinstalling the ink cartridges?

 

Your printer is designed to print only when all ink cartridges have ink. Some ink from all the ink cartridges is used in periodic servicing tasks. This helps to prevent issues such as printhead clogs and poor print quality. There is no way to bypass this feature.

 

Refer to this document to get more information regarding the same.

 

In order to isolate and resolve the issue, follow the steps from the document HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge.

 

Also, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

 

Try printing.
