I installed a new black cartridge in my HP 8730. The printer says there is a supply system problem.

Hi @Wadsworth400,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering a "supply system problem" after installing a new black cartridge in your HP 8730 printer, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  1. Check Cartridge Installation:

    • Make sure that the black cartridge is installed correctly. Ensure that it's securely seated in its designated slot.
  2. Restart the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues.
  3. Update Firmware:

    • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Go to the HP support website, locate your printer model, and download the latest firmware if available. Installing the latest firmware can often resolve compatibility issues.
  4. Clean Cartridge Contacts:

    • Turn off the printer.
    • Remove the black cartridge.
    • Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.
    • Clean the contacts inside the cartridge slot in the printer.
    • Reinstall the black cartridge and turn the printer back on.
  5. Check for Obstructions:

    • Ensure that there are no obstructions or debris in the cartridge area that might be preventing proper installation or communication.
  6. Test with Another Cartridge:

    • If possible, try using another black cartridge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
