I just inserted my cartridge, and it shows empty, used the virtual assistant and cleaned like they suggested, and it is still not working.

Hi  @Sandyky,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've just inserted a new cartridge into your HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One Printer and it's showing as empty, there are several possible reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  1. Check Cartridge Installation:

    • Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed. Make sure they are securely snapped into place.
  2. Remove and Reinsert Cartridge:

    • Take out the cartridge and then reinsert it. Make sure you hear a click when inserting the cartridge, indicating it is securely in place.
  3. Check for Protective Strips:

    • Some cartridges have protective strips that need to be removed before installation. Ensure that you have removed any protective strips from the cartridge.
  4. Update Printer Firmware:

    • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.
  5. Clean Cartridge Contacts:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Remove the cartridges.
    • Clean the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth.
    • Reinsert the cartridges and turn the printer back on.
  6. Reset the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for a few minutes.
    • Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the ink level readings.
  7. Check Ink Levels Through Printer Software:

    • Use the printer software on your computer to check the ink levels. It may provide more accurate information than the printer display.

Remember, using third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause issues with the printer recognizing the ink levels correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
