LaserJet Pro M203dw prints first page well. Additional pages fade till nothing prints.  Does this mean the fuser needs to be replaced?

Hi @Scarlsen,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing, where the print quality fades on additional pages until nothing prints, may indeed be related to the fuser unit, but it's not the only possible cause. Here are a few things you can check before concluding that the fuser needs to be replaced:

Toner Cartridge: Make sure that the toner cartridge is not running low or empty. If the toner is low, it can result in fading print quality.

Print Density Settings: Check the print density settings in your printer driver. If the print density is set too low, it can result in faint prints. Adjust the print density to a higher setting and see if it makes a difference.

Paper Quality: Ensure that you are using the correct type and quality of paper for your printer. Using low-quality or incompatible paper may affect print quality.

Print Settings: Verify the print settings for your print job. Sometimes, software settings may affect print quality. Make sure you are using the appropriate settings for your document.

Fuser Unit Inspection: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you may need to inspect the fuser unit. The fuser is responsible for bonding the toner to the paper through heat. If it's failing, you may experience fading prints. Look for any signs of damage or wear on the fuser unit

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Can you provide the part number so I can purchase a replacement?  I cannot find it on your website and need to investigate if a replacement will be cost effective or not.  Your quick assistance will be greatly appreciated.

In this case the fuser is referred to as a fixing assembly RM2-0806-000CN

However, based on your description, I doubt that the fuser is the problem. The fuser simply bonds toner already attached to the page. If the fuser was bad you would normally see issues like repetitive defects down the page or ghosting, where part of an image appears in the background further down the page. Your issue is more likely a toner cartridge issue or a voltage issue. Make sure the printer is connected directly to the wall as surge protectors and UPS units can cause issues.
