HP OfficeJet Pro 8022 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I spoke to a very nice guy on the phone today from HP. He said he is sending me new inks because Cyan color won't print. However  he said if the new ink does not sort the problem then its a hardware problem meaning the print head. In my  printer one cannot replace the print head therefore have to buy a new printer.

I have 2 issues here. There were  huge leak/s mainly black in the printer. I must have used up at least 10 x large  sheets from the kitchen roll and  3 Microfiber clothes. Completely soaked. My hands and nails are a state. I have taken photos as well as showed it to the nice guy I spoke to from HP. (camera)  I opened the dustbin to show how much ink I had collected on the sheets and microfiber. There is still more in the printer but I am too tired to continue.

It is the leaking of the inks supplied by HP that has (if)damaged my print head. The leaking of the ink  must have been happening for quite awhile ,not only from the latest ink supplied. The only reason I investigated today was because I had to print some urgent documents needed for the court. There was no Cyan printing. Followed the normal stuff  alignment, cleaning the 3 stage, printing out hardware information. In this yellow and pink were not too bad it had blue streaks but I could live with that  but no Cyan and black coming out with streaks. Went on HP site it suggested to clean the contacts. I took out all the ink and noticed ink all over. There was a lot of ink on the right side of the printer as well where the printer head sits.  I am sure this has something to do with the print heads not lasting. (complaints) Alternate their newer print head are  of such low quality  which only lasts a couple of years.

I purchased this in 2022 from Amazon and I print less than 50 pages on average a month.  I have instant ink account with HP for 100 sheets which I think is the the minimum. From 2022 I have only had 2 shipments of ink a year so one can calculate that I don't print a lot. Having said that sometimes only Black shipment  so not full size shipments. Therefore it can not be due to lots of printing, wear and tear. I pay five pounds something a month that is £70 a year. I wanted original inks so my printer doesn't get buggered up. But this turned out opposite. Leaking inks have buggered up my print head which is not replaceable.

if you search here or elsewhere why lots of people are having problems with CYAN  ink? Is it the ink or that particular slot of printer head or the leak/s ?  I showed the guy my old HP printer which is in a very good working condition after 15 years and ink never leaked but then I did not purchase it from HP direct or even used HP original ink . The only reason for a 2nd HP is that it is smaller and has WiFi capabilities.

I want to know if any one else  had ink leak/s in their printer not just a drop but the way I have described it. Cause and solution please.

Hi @us10

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you're facing with your HP printer. Ink leakage, particularly the large amounts you’ve described, can be a frustrating and damaging problem. It's not uncommon for users to experience problems with the cyan ink or even ink leakage, and this seems to be an issue that some have reported with certain HP models. Let me break down what might be going on and how you can proceed.

Why Is the Cyan Ink Not Printing?

Based on your description, the cyan ink not printing combined with ink leakage suggests a possible blockage in the printhead or an issue with the ink delivery system. Here’s a breakdown of the potential causes:

Clogged Printhead Nozzles:

  • One of the most common reasons for missing colors like cyan in HP printers is clogged printhead nozzles. This happens when ink dries up in the nozzles or when the printhead gets damaged due to excessive ink leakage. Unfortunately, if the printhead is non-replaceable (as in your case), it could lead to long-term issues if it becomes clogged.

Ink Leakage:

  • Ink leakage can occur if the ink cartridges or printhead are improperly sealed or if the cartridges are overfilled. Cyan ink leakage, specifically, may be more noticeable if the cartridges are faulty, which can cause excessive ink to spill into the internal parts of the printer.
  • The leaking you described, especially with large amounts of ink and it being collected on tissues and microfiber clothes, could very well have been damaging the printhead. If the printhead has been exposed to too much ink, it could cause clogging or electrical issues, affecting print quality.

Defective Ink Cartridges:

  • It seems like the issue started with your HP-supplied ink cartridges. If the cartridges themselves are faulty, they could be leaking or causing improper ink flow to the printhead. This would lead to poor printing and potential damage to the printhead. HP’s instant ink cartridges, while convenient, might have quality issues on occasion.

Software/Hardware Issues:

  • Sometimes, software glitches can also affect how the printer reads and uses the ink cartridges, especially if the printer's ink tracking system isn't functioning correctly. It’s possible that your printer is wrongly indicating a cyan issue when the issue could stem from the hardware malfunction caused by the leak.

I hope this helps.
