Just confirming someone's earlier post - despite relatively new cartridges, for multi-page documents, I am getting red streaks down the left side of the page. Post said magenta cartridge was defective. I cleaned the roller and that is solving the problem.

My question - to clean the roller, I have to print a page, remove and clean the exposed part of the roller, then repeat. . . and repeat.

Is there a better way to clean the roller?

Did you change the cartridge? If you get magenta on the page after printing a few pages that would indicate that the cartridge is leaking and no amount of cleaning will solve the issue for more than a few pages as the toner will build up again as it leaks out. If this is an HP cartridge and is not at low it should be covered under cartridge warranty in which case return to place of purchase with a copy of the supplies status page and a sample. If this is an off-brand product, contact the seller and register a complaint and ask them to replace it.

Yes - I changed the cartridge to a non-HP brand - this is the first time an off-brand has not worked in any of my HP printers.  I got a replacement (same off-brand) and it is not streaking - but the color also looks really washed out - so I will consider this a lesson in "Don't be cheap - it will cost you . . ."

There could be toner on the drum contacts in the printer that is preventing good contact. They are on the left side of the toner cartridge cavity. There are four matching silver contact sets, one for each color.
