On an HP LaserJet M277DW, when I change the toner cartridge do I need to reset pages printed counter, or does it automatically reset?

The counter that tells you how many pages left or printer from a cartridge is all done automatically. Remaining pages are based on an average of toner used during the usage of the first portion of the print cartridge.
