Hi @Andrewlee5,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw is showing a "Cartridges Missing" error despite cleaning and troubleshooting, here are several steps you can take to try to resolve the issue:
1. Check Cartridge Installation
Turn Off and Unplug the Printer:
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:
- Open the printer's cartridge access door.
- Remove each toner cartridge and carefully reinstall them, ensuring they click securely into place.
Check for Protective Strips:
- Ensure any protective strips or covers on the new cartridges have been removed.
2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
Power Off and Unplug:
- Turn off and unplug the printer.
Remove Cartridges:
- Open the cartridge access door and remove the toner cartridges.
Clean Contacts:
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the metal contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
Reinstall Cartridges:
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
3. Check for Firmware Updates
Access HP Support:
- Visit the HP support website and search for firmware updates for your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw.
Install Firmware:
- Download and install any available firmware updates according to the instructions provided.
4. Reset the Printer
Power Cycle:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Factory Reset:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > System Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the reset and allow the printer to restart.
5. Test with a Different Cartridge
- Replace Cartridges:
- If possible, test the printer with a different set of genuine HP toner cartridges to rule out defective cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
