HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

My HP ENVY 4520 will not print in color, only prints in black.  It will copy in color but not print in color.  

Any suggestions?

I understand your HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer copies in color but only prints in black, this could be due to a few different reasons, such as settings issues or driver problems. 

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:


1. Check Printer Settings

  • Default Print Settings: Ensure the print settings are not set to print in grayscale or black and white by default.
    • Open the document you want to print.
    • Click on File > Print.
    • Click on Printer Properties or Preferences.
    • Make sure that the Color option is selected instead of Black & White or Grayscale.

2. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver

  • Outdated or corrupt drivers can cause printing issues.
    • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest driver for your HP ENVY 4520.
    • Install the driver and restart your computer.

3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • HP offers a diagnostic tool that can help identify and resolve printing issues.
    • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website.

4. Check for Print Head Issues

  • Sometimes, the printhead can become clogged or dirty, affecting color printing.
    • From the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to clean the printhead. Repeat the process if necessary.

5. Check Ink Levels

  • Low ink levels can sometimes affect color printing.
    • Go to your printer's control panel and check the ink levels.
    • If any cartridges are low or empty, replace them with genuine HP ink cartridges.

6. Reset the Printer

  • A reset can sometimes resolve temporary printing issues.
    • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
    • Turn on the printer if it does not turn on automatically.

7. Check Application Settings

  • Sometimes, individual applications (like Microsoft Word or Adobe Reader) might have their own settings.
    • When printing from a specific application, check the print settings to ensure they are set to print in color.

I have followed each one of your suggestions with no luck.  Even after running the HP Print and Scan Doctor, that test page printed in black.... I'm lost.  Mabey the dam thing is just broken.
