My printer is indicating that it can't communicate with the black ink cartridge.  I have put a new cartridge in, unplugged it, and cleaned the contacts.  Nothing has worked.  Can anyone suggest anything?

When your HP ENVY printer is unable to communicate with the black ink cartridge despite trying a new cartridge, unplugging the printer, and cleaning the contacts, here are a few additional steps you can try.

 

  • Restart Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 1-2 minutes, and then plug it back in. Turn on the printer and see if the issue is resolved.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause communication problems with ink cartridges. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP ENVY printer and install them if needed.
  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is installed correctly. Remove it and reinsert it into the printer, making sure it clicks securely into place.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Clean the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer where they make contact. Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently wipe the contacts. Make sure they are dry before reinserting the cartridge.
  • Check for Obstructions: Look inside the printer for any debris or obstructions that may be blocking the cartridge contacts or the ink carriage.
  • Reset Printer: Sometimes resetting the printer to its factory defaults can clear up communication issues. This can typically be done through the printer's menu settings or by pressing a combination of buttons on the printer itself (refer to your printer's manual for instructions).

 

By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the communication issue between your HP ENVY printer and the black ink cartridge.
