My HP LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw is leaving red horizontal stripes on the paper being printed.  I just changed the print cartridges so all colors are full.  It seemed to help a little--the stripes are now narrower--but it didn't fix it.

Hi @PeggeRiley ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting a red horizontal stripes on your prints from the HP LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw usually indicate an issue with the imaging drum or toner cartridge, specifically the magenta cartridge. Since you recently replaced the cartridges, the problem could also stem from toner buildup, improper installation, or an internal printer component needing attention. Here’s how you can address the issue:

1. Verify the Magenta Toner Cartridge

  • Inspect for Damage or Defects:
    • Remove the magenta toner cartridge and carefully inspect it for leaks, scratches, or uneven toner distribution.
    • Gently shake the cartridge to redistribute the toner evenly.
    • Reinstall the cartridge securely to ensure proper alignment.
  • Test with Another Cartridge:
    • If you have an old or spare magenta cartridge, try using it to see if the problem resolves.

2. Clean the Imaging Drum

  • Red stripes might be due to toner residue or scratches on the drum.
  • If your printer uses a separate imaging drum, inspect it for marks or toner buildup.
  • Use a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the drum. Avoid scratching its surface.

3. Run Printer Maintenance Tasks

  • Use your printer's built-in cleaning tools:
    1. From the control panel, navigate to Settings > Service > Cleaning Mode.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to clean internal components.
  • Perform a calibration:
    1. Navigate to System Setup > Print Quality > Calibrate Now to improve alignment and color distribution.

4. Check for Paper or Internal Component Issues

  • Paper Quality: Use high-quality paper that is compatible with your printer.
  • Fuser Unit: Inspect the fuser for any toner buildup or damage. The fuser applies heat to bond toner to the paper, and issues with it can result in streaks.
  • Transfer Roller: Clean the transfer roller if it's accessible and shows signs of toner buildup.

5. Update Firmware

Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause print quality issues:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model to download the latest firmware.

6. Print a Diagnostic Page

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Reports > Print Quality Page.
  2. Examine the diagnostic page to identify which component (e.g., magenta drum, transfer belt, etc.) might be causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
