My HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 has a ? on the display screen. Please advise me on how to remove it. Thanks

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer is displaying a question mark (?) on the screen, it typically indicates that there is an issue or error that needs attention. To resolve this, follow these steps.

 

  • Check for Error Messages: Look for any accompanying error messages or codes on the screen. These messages often provide clues about the specific problem. Note down any error codes you see.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Power it on again and see if the question mark disappears.
  • Update Firmware/Software: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware and software updates. You can usually find this information on the HP website. Updating can often fix bugs or compatibility issues.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no paper jams inside the printer. If there is any stuck paper, carefully remove it. Refer to your printer's user manual for guidance on how to do this properly.
  • Check Ink or Toner Levels: If you're getting a question mark along with a message about ink or toner, check the levels of your cartridges. Replace any empty or low cartridges as needed.
