HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I have tried many ways, cleaning print head, changing cartridges, asking it to print in color but it doesn't print in color.  I leave it on black and then sometimes the symbols in color will print in black, sometimes just blank where the symbols should be.

Hi @Ikatz95,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer is not printing in color despite your efforts, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take.

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure that the color ink cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink levels. If the cartridges are low or empty, replace them with new, genuine HP cartridges.

Printer Settings:

  • Verify that the print settings in your software or application are configured to print in color. Sometimes, applications default to black and white or grayscale printing.

Printer Driver:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer driver installed. You can visit the official HP website to download and install the most recent driver for your printer model.

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a test page directly from the printer. This will help you determine if the issue is related to the computer or software. Refer to your printer manual for instructions on printing a test page.

Clean Print Heads:

  • Run the printer's built-in clean print head utility to clean the printheads. This can be done through the printer's control panel or software on your computer.

Align Print Heads:

  • Check if your printer has an option to align the print heads. This can also be done through the printer's control panel or software.

Check Color Settings:

  • Make sure that your color settings on both the printer and computer are configured correctly. Check if there are any color-related options in the printer settings.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware. Like drivers, you can find firmware updates on the HP website.

Reset Printer:

  • Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in, power it on, and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
