I have a black line showing up on the left side of every page and I don't know how to fix this?

That black line on the left side of your prints is a common issue with the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw. Here are some HP-based troubleshooting steps to fix it:

Step 1: Clean the Scanner Glass & ADF Strip

  • If the issue appears only when scanning or copying, the ADF glass (the small strip next to the main scanner glass) might be dirty.
  • Use a lint-free cloth with glass cleaner to wipe both the flatbed glass and the ADF strip.

Step 2: Run a Cleaning Cycle

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Device Maintenance > Cleaning Page.
  • This helps remove toner buildup inside the printer.

Step 3: Check the Toner CartridgeRemove the black toner cartridge and inspect it for leaks or damage.

  • If you see excess toner inside the printer, gently clean it with a dry, lint-free cloth.

Step 4: Inspect the Fuser & Transfer Belt

  • If the black line appears on all prints, the fuser unit or transfer belt might need cleaning or replacement.

Step 5: Update Firmware
