My printer was not printing blue ink. Tried numerous times to clean the printhead, but have still had no results. Then noticed there was a lot of black ink pooled in the bottom right hand side of the printer. Looks like this has happened for a while. What could be causing this, and could this be a reason I still cannot print blue?

Hi @KPP25,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer's black ink leaking!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
The pooling of black ink and the inability to print blue on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 could indicate a few potential issues with the printer's ink system, printhead, or internal mechanics. Let's break down the possible causes and solutions:
1. Ink Overflow or Ink Smears:
- Pooling of ink in the bottom right corner could indicate a clogged or misaligned printhead or ink leakage somewhere in the printer.
- Over time, excessive ink pooling can cause ink smears or damage to the printhead, affecting the overall print quality, particularly specific colors like blue (cyan).
2. Clogged or Dirty Printhead:
- If cleaning the printhead didn’t resolve the issue, the cyan (blue) nozzle could still be clogged. Even after performing regular cleaning cycles, a printhead can remain partially clogged, especially if the ink has dried or the printer has not been used for a while.
- Ink pooling near the printhead area suggests the ink may not be flowing properly to the correct locations, and this can affect specific colors (like cyan/blue).
3. Ink Cartridge Issues:
- There could be an issue with your cyan (blue) ink cartridge. Even if it’s full, it might not be dispensing ink correctly due to a defective cartridge or damaged chip.
- You could try replacing the cyan cartridge to see if that resolves the issue.
4. Ink System Blockages:
- Over time, ink can dry out and clog the internal ink tubes or printhead channels. The pooling ink might indicate a blockage in the system, which prevents the cyan ink from reaching the printhead correctly.
5. Faulty Ink Delivery System:
- The pooling of black ink might be related to a problem in the ink delivery system, such as a blocked or malfunctioning ink line. If the lines for cyan and black ink are shared or in close proximity, a blockage in one line (black) can affect the other (cyan).
- There might also be a problem with the ink absorber or waste ink reservoir, which could be causing the ink to leak out.

Try these steps to fix the issue:
Perform a Deep Printhead Cleaning:
- Go to your printer’s settings and perform a deep printhead cleaning. This may take a few cycles, but it’s more effective than a regular cleaning cycle.
- After the cleaning process, print a diagnostic page or a print quality report to check if the blue ink starts appearing.
Check the Ink Cartridges:
- Verify that the cyan ink cartridge is not damaged or empty. If the cartridge is old or defective, replacing it with a new one could fix the problem.
- Even if the cartridge is full, try removing it and then reseating it properly.
Inspect the Printer for Ink Spills or Clogs:
- Carefully inspect the printer's interior for any ink spills or smears. Use a soft cloth or paper towel to wipe off any pooled ink.
- Check the printhead contacts for any dried ink or blockages.
Check the Ink Absorber Pads:
- The ink absorber pads might be filled or damaged. If ink is pooling under the printer, this could mean the pads are saturated, preventing proper ink flow and creating the pooling issue.
- If you’re not familiar with the process, this is something that might require professional help from HP support or a printer repair service.
Perform a Printer Reset:
- Sometimes, resetting the printer can help resolve persistent issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then turn it back on.
Let me know if any of these steps help or if you need more detailed guidance!
