Put in new blue ink HP cartridge.  Blue ink will not print.  Replaced the cartridge and still no blue ink.  HP all in one office jet 8020 printer.  No other problems.  Why won't the blue ink print?

If your blue ink still won’t print even after replacing the cartridge on your HP OfficeJet 8020 printer, there could be several underlying issues. Here’s a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to help resolve the problem:

1. Verify Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure that the new blue ink cartridge is correctly installed and fully seated in its slot. Remove and reinsert the cartridge to make sure it’s properly installed.
  • Verify that any protective tape or plastic covering on the cartridge's ink nozzles or contacts has been removed.

2. Perform Printhead Cleaning

  • Access the printer’s cleaning utility through the control panel or HP Smart app. This can usually be found under Tools or Maintenance.
  • Run a printhead cleaning cycle to clear any clogs. You might need to run it multiple times.
  • If automatic cleaning doesn’t work, manually clean the printhead.
    • Remove the Cartridges:
      • Open the printer’s cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
    • Clean Printhead Contacts:
      • Gently wipe the contacts on the printhead and the cartridges using a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Avoid getting the cloth too wet.

3. Check for Ink Flow

  • Check the blue cartridge nozzle for any dried ink or clogs. Use a lint-free cloth to clean it gently.
  • Verify the ink levels using the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app to ensure there’s sufficient ink in the blue cartridge.

4. Print a Test Page

  • Print a test page or a diagnostic page from the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app. This helps identify if the issue is with the printhead or the cartridge itself.
  • Review the test page to see if blue and other colors are printing correctly.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit the HP Support website or use the HP Smart app to check for and install any available firmware updates for your printer.
