Hi @Oakley4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to encounter that error message despite having brand new cartridges. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Make sure that the cartridges are securely installed in their respective slots. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause such errors.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and remove the cartridges. Clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. This can help ensure proper electrical contact.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates include bug fixes related to cartridge recognition.
- Reset the Printer: Try performing a power reset on the printer. To do this, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still turned on. Wait for about a minute, then plug the power cord back in. Turn on the printer and check if the issue persists.
- Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer model. Using incorrect cartridges or cartridges not meant for your region can cause compatibility issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
