HP Laserjet MFP M283fdw

I ordered and received a new HP printer, and after I turned it on, it gave me an error stating that my toner was incompatible.

After accessing the web GUI, I found that the printer needs 207A cartridges but was shipped with 206A cartridges.  I can't seem to source 207A cartridges.

I have updated the firmware, reset it to factory defaults, and ordered new HP cartridges, but I still get the same error.

Please help!

Hi @aprice25

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a compatibility issue with your HP printer's toner cartridges. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the error code related to the 206A and 207A toner cartridges:

1. Verify Printer Model

  • Ensure that you have the correct printer model. Sometimes, different models in the same series require different cartridges.

2. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Double-check that the new cartridges you ordered are indeed the 207A cartridges and are compatible with your specific printer model.

3. Remove and Reinstall Cartridges

  • Power off the printer, remove the cartridges, and inspect them for any damage or protective tape that might not have been removed. Reinstall the cartridges securely and power the printer back on.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear error messages.

5. Firmware Update

  • Ensure that your printer firmware is up to date. You mentioned updating the firmware already, but double-check on the HP support website for any new updates.

6. Check for Blocked Connections

  • Inspect the toner cartridge slots for any obstructions or debris. Ensure the contacts are clean.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
