HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

First received messages that the print head or ink system have a problem. Called Tech Support they identified a defective new HP cartridge.  I had already ordered a new print head. Now both print heads seem fine, but the printer keeps telling me that some cartridges are empty (and they are new) and some are defective. The printer is always identifying a different cartridge. The screen shows empty cartridges when they are new and full HP cartridges.  Is this a software problem? I feel that all of this happened after a firmware update. I have tried every single suggestion, none of which worked..
