Hi @BEEBOSS,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is only printing in black and white, even though you have color ink in the tank, here are the most common causes and how to fix them:
1. Check Print Settings
Sometimes, the printer is set to print in grayscale or black-and-white mode:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your HP printer and select Printing Preferences.
- Look for a setting like:
- Print in Grayscale
- Black & White only
- Make sure it is unchecked or set to Color.
2. Use the HP Smart App to Print a Color Test Page
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Go to Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools.
- Select Print Quality Report or Print Diagnostic Page.
- This will help confirm if the color ink is being used at all.
3. Check Ink Levels
- In the HP Smart app, check the estimated ink levels.
- If the color ink shows as low or empty, it may not print even if there's some ink left.
4. Clean the Printhead
If the color nozzles are clogged, the printer may not print in color:
- In the HP Smart app or printer control panel, go to:
- Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead
- Run the cleaning cycle and try printing again.
5. Check Cartridge Compatibility
- If you're using refilled or third-party cartridges, the printer may not recognize or use them properly, especially on HP+ (e-series) models.
- Try replacing with genuine HP cartridges if possible.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
