My printer is acting like it is out of or low on ink, but the ink cartridges all have ink. I replaced one to be sure that it wasn't the cartridges.

I've run the HP Print & scan doctor. It says everything is ok

Hi @CydH,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already taken some good troubleshooting steps. Since the printer is indicating low ink despite the cartridges being replaced and showing ink, there could be a few potential issues at play.

  • Contact Points: Check the contact points on both the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges are inserted. Sometimes, dirt or residue can accumulate on these contact points, causing connectivity issues. Gently clean them with a soft cloth or cotton swab dampened with distilled water, then dry thoroughly.
  • Printer Software: Ensure your printer's software is up to date. Sometimes, outdated firmware or drivers can cause communication errors between the printer and the cartridges.
  • Reset the Printer: Try performing a hard reset on the printer. This often involves turning off the printer, unplugging it from the power source, waiting for a few minutes, and then plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Some printers receive firmware updates that address various issues, including false low ink warnings. Check HP's official website for any available updates for your printer model.
  • Printer Settings: Check the printer settings to ensure there are no settings that might be causing this issue. For example, there might be an option to disable ink level warnings or to reset the ink level indicators.
  • Print in Black and White: If the printer allows, try printing in black and white only. Sometimes, printers may erroneously report low ink levels for color cartridges even if only black ink is being used.
  • Replace the Cartridges: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, try replacing all the cartridges, even if they still contain ink. Sometimes, cartridges can be faulty or have internal issues that aren't immediately apparent.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
