@Howard521, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Older Generation Cartridges" error on your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2675 printer typically occurs when using ink cartridges that are not compatible with the printer's firmware version. HP periodically updates firmware to prevent the use of outdated or third-party cartridges. Here are steps to resolve the issue:
Steps to Fix the "Older Generation Cartridges" Error
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges that are compatible with your printer. The correct cartridges for the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2675 are: (based on your region)
- HP 680 Black
- HP 680 Tri-color
Clean Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the cartridge access door and remove the ink cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Allow them to dry for a few minutes, then reinsert the cartridges.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable for 5 minutes.
- Plug the power cable back in and turn the printer on.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges and check if the error disappears.
Update the Printer Firmware
- If the error started after a firmware update, your printer may now require updated cartridges. To update firmware manually:
- Download and install HP Smart or HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Run the software and check for firmware updates.
- If an update is available, install it and restart the printer.
Try a Different Cartridge
- If you have a spare or new HP 680 cartridge, install it and check if the error persists. If a new cartridge works but the old one doesn’t, the issue may be with cartridge compatibility.
Disable Cartridge Protection (If Applicable)
- If you have previously enabled Cartridge Protection in the HP Smart App or HP Printer Assistant, try disabling it:
- Open HP Printer Assistant on your PC.
- Navigate to Settings > HP Cartridge Protection.
- Select Disable Cartridge Protection and save changes.
- Restart the printer and check if it works.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
