My printer won't print pure black (prints as purple or light blue) as it did before

If your printer isn’t printing pure black and instead shows purple or light blue, here are a few things we can check:

 

Check Ink Levels:

  • If the black ink is low or empty, the printer may mix colors to create a dark shade instead of using pure black.

Perform a Printhead Cleaning:

  • Go to your printer’s settings and run the “Clean Printhead” or “Printhead Maintenance” function to unclog any dried ink.

Check for Clogged Nozzles:

  • Print a nozzle check or test page. If black is missing or faded, cleaning may help restore proper printing.

Align the Printhead:

  • If the printhead is misaligned, colors might not print correctly. You can align it through the printer’s settings.

Use Genuine HP Ink:

  • If you’re using third-party cartridges, they may not produce true black ink as expected.

Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed from the HP website.
