HP Smart Tank 589 All-in-One Printer

Hello HP Community,

I recently purchased an HP Smart Tank 589 All-in-One Printer in January 2025, and overall, I’ve found it to be a great device. However, I recently started printing color photos and noticed that the printed images appear much darker than those on my laptop screen.

I’m unsure whether this issue is related to my laptop display settings or if I need to adjust something in the printer settings. Since I’m new to using a printer for personal purposes, I’d appreciate guidance on optimizing the settings for accurate color reproduction.

For reference, I used Oddy 180 GSM A4 Size Glossy Photo Paper for printing. Any advice or troubleshooting steps to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,
[Bobby]

@PrintWhiz,

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:

1. Check Display Brightness & Calibration

  • Your laptop screen might be too bright, making prints look darker in comparison.
  • Reduce brightness to around 50% to better match printed results.

2. Use the Correct Paper Type Setting

  • Open HP Smart or Printer Preferences on your laptop.
  • Go to Paper Type and select Glossy Photo Paper (or the closest option).
  • Set Print Quality to Best for better color accuracy.

3. Adjust Color Settings

  • In Printer Preferences, look for Color Management or Advanced Color Settings.
  • Increase brightness or gamma slightly (if available).
  • Try switching between profiles (sRGB/RGB) to see which looks better.

4. Check Ink Levels & Maintenance

  • Open HP Smart App → Check Ink Levels.
  • Run Printhead Cleaning (via Printer Settings) if colors seem off.

5. Try Different ICC Profiles (Advanced)

  • If you have image editing software (like Photoshop), use the HP ICC profile for your paper type.
  • Some glossy papers may require different settings to print accurately.

6. Test with HP Photo Paper

  • Some third-party papers may not work well with HP’s ink.
  • If possible, test with HP Advanced Glossy Photo Paper to compare results.

I’m pretty confident this will do the trick! But hey, if you run into any bumps along the way or need a little extra help, just give me a shout! I’ve got your back. 💪
