Describe:
What you were doing & experienced - 3/28/2025 - I set up a new HP Envy6458e printer for the first time with HP+ Instant Ink on my HP Envy x360 laptop running windows 10 64bit and am experiencing poor color quality. Black print is ok . Followed all instructions to include aligning the paper. I also used the virtual assistant and found no issues with printer.
Steps to recreate - I also loaded the HP Smart app on an iPhone 15+ and print quality the same. Attached picture shows color difference.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Verify Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure the ink cartridges are properly installed in their respective slots.
- Verify that the protective tape from the cartridges has been removed.
Check Ink Levels:
- In the HP Smart app, check the ink levels to ensure they are sufficient.
Print a Diagnostic Page:
- In the HP Smart app, go to Print Quality Tools and select Print Quality Diagnostic.
- This will help identify any specific issues with the ink cartridges or printheads.
Align the Printheads:
- Even if you've already aligned the printheads, try repeating this process.
- On your printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead.
Clean the Printheads:
- Ink residue can sometimes cause poor print quality. Using the HP Smart app or printer control panel, navigate to Print Quality Tools > Clean Printhead.
Update Printer Firmware:
Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP Support website, which can diagnose and fix many print issues.
Check Print Settings:
- On your HP Envy x360 laptop, open the document you wish to print.
- Click File > Print and then Printer Properties.
- Ensure settings such as paper type, print quality, and color options are correctly set.
Use High-Quality Paper:
- Ensure you are using the recommended paper type for the type of print you are doing.
- Using high-quality paper can significantly improve print quality.
I hope this helps.
