HP Officejet Pro 8600 using 950XL black cartridge:  New cartridge produces the message "Printer failure.  There is a problem with the printer or ink system."  Tells me to turn it off & on.  Done that several times.  No difference.  I re-install the old cartridge, and it's just fine except that the cartridge is empty.  With the new cartridge in, it recognizes that theres a genuine HP cartrige there, but then goes on to land on that message again.  Can't use the printer at all with the new cartridge in.

Hi @Mudge99,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Perform the steps from this document and see how it goes. If these steps do not fix the issue either it could be a faulty cartridge or it could be hardware.

Update the firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
