Hi @cnl256,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 might be related to the new yellow ink cartridge not being recognized properly. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this:
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure the cartridge is properly seated in its slot. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it firmly until it clicks into place.
Clean the Contacts:
- Gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a soft, dry cloth. Sometimes dust or residue can interfere with communication.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary communication issues.
Verify Cartridge Compatibility:
- Make sure the cartridge is the correct model for your printer. Using the wrong cartridge or a non-HP cartridge can lead to compatibility issues.
Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the printer’s settings menu.
Try a Different Cartridge:
- If possible, test with another new yellow cartridge. Sometimes a cartridge can be defective right out of the box.
Perform a Printer Diagnostic:
- Use the printer’s built-in diagnostic tools to check for any issues. This can usually be accessed from the printer’s control panel.
